Common questions
No. Vocado is a direct download from vocado.ai — a notarized, signed DMG. Auto-updates are built in, so you'll always have the latest version without checking the App Store.
Not yet — we're launching with monthly only. A yearly plan with a meaningful discount is on the roadmap.
macOS 14 (Sonoma) and later. Vocado is a native Mac app — it lives in your menu bar and works system-wide via a global hotkey.
Not supported at launch. We prototyped an iOS keyboard extension but the result was too compromised to ship: iOS keyboard extensions can't directly access the microphone, so every dictation app on the App Store has to bounce you out to the main app to record and back again. It works, but it's clunky, and you'll see the same complaint in reviews of Wispr Flow, SuperWhisper, Spokenly, and every other player in the space.
We'd rather ship one thing that's genuinely great than two things where one is mediocre. We're watching iOS platform APIs and exploring non-keyboard approaches (Action Button, Shortcuts, App Intents) for a future iOS version.
Any Mac app that accepts text input. Browsers, email clients, Slack, VS Code, Notes, Pages, Word, Xcode, Terminal — if you can type in it, Vocado works.
Faster, more accurate, works with any language, and saves your full history. Apple's built-in dictation is fine for the occasional message — Vocado is for everything else.
We've got you. Vocado remembers your target app and can still insert text. If that fails, it copies to clipboard and shows a notification. Worst case? Hit ⌃⌘V to paste your last transcription anywhere.
Yes. Vocado uses a fast cloud transcription service. Your audio is processed and immediately deleted—we never store your recordings.
We collect the minimum data needed to provide the service. No screenshots. No clipboard logging. No analytics. Just dictation.
Vocado requires internet for transcription. This is how we keep it lightning fast and the app tiny. If you need offline, we're not the right fit.
